In AutoCad, why are my dimensions coming out in separate pieces?

When I create a dimension on this certain drawing in the same method I make all my dimensions usually, the dimension itself doesn’t remain intact. Rather, it splits it up into the different object that make up a dimension; 3 lines, 2 slashes and text. Also, after I place the dimension, it asks me what text to put in. Very strange.

It must be some options for placing dimensions, but I can’t find it anywhere.

Create a new dimstyle from scratch and use that for creating your dimensions. make sure that the box isn’t checked to explode the dimensions.

Set DIMASO (or DIMASSOC) to ON (or 1)

Thanks for the info Jed. Why AutoCAD 2012 would come out of the box with dims automatically exploded is beyond me.

    Thanks for your info.
