17 AutoCAD Tips in High Definition Video
This tip was recorded in High Definition Video. I’ve attempted this on one of the last previous tips and a few people said they had issues with the sound. Hopefully that problem has been fixed. For the best picture quality, I recommend playing the video in full screen mode.

This video covers 17 OSNAP options. Many of them will be a review for some of you, but I’d bet only a few really know how to use all of them. Let me know in the comment section.

Thanks for the O-snap refresher.
My only suggestion is rather than using the “None” selection, I find it quicker to toggle F3 that turns the snaps on and off. Yes, it’s not a single selection and you ahve to turn it back on, but your hand/fingers know where to go (you can tell I come with HotKey background) faster than C-rt clk, pick. Just a thought.

Great presentation
I still experience problems with using tangent when trying to draw line tangent from one circle to tan to another especially if creating an “X”, if you will between them, as in drawing a fig “8″.
Any good tip for how to do this?

Make sure you pick the Tangent osnap for each circle. If you are doing an override, this means you will pick line, then “tangent”, then pick your circle, then pick “tangent” again and pick your other circle. Hope that helps

You let see that there is more to do with osnaps. Some times parts are forgoten and such tutorials become valuable. I look gladly such tutorials because you can see and hear what its explaned. The image and sound is of good kwalitiet. I look fullscreen on a 24 inch monitor with a 512mb videokaart.

How about this one. Hover over the area where the intended object-snap resides (don’t pick) and hit the Tab key until the correct object snap displays.

Hello Mike
I thought the picture quality was much better than previously and the sound was fine, however I lost the video when you were showing how to, on the intersection lines demo.
I tried several times turning it to the start position, but had no luck.
It may be my PC or the broadband which use, I will try again to view it later.

What operating system are you using? What browser? Do you know if you are using the most up to date version of Flash?

Thank you for all your excellent tutorials.
Do you have anything on interactive blocks. A block that can be clicked on on screen and change via a drop down menu to other symbol options within a group. For example a Tel socket changes to an I.T point. It also has arrow to flip it or move it etc.
Not sure what they are called but have seen the name WYSIG on them.

Hey Mike!
This is a great new format and a super way to review the tools. I, like everyone else I’m sure, get quite accustomed to using a limited number of tools for simplicity, For me it’s Line, Offset, Extend, Trim, Fillet and so on. I’ve used AutoCad for (I can’t believe I’m gonna say it) 18 years and so I’m from the “old school” typing short-cut era. I’ve lost a lot of “shorts” (ie. L, O, EXT, TR, C type commands. Master at the keyboard with one hand and mouse in the other. Could you do a review of this sometime?

This kind of tutorial is really good. You have audio and video and most of the people understand things like this easily if they can hear and see. This is great!
A little comment on John’s comment, I think he is talking about the Dynamic Block.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
x86 based PC
ADOBE Flash Player 10
IE 7
Since going to high definition, I have not been able to view any videos for quite a while.

Great tutorial. Very easy to follow. I agree with Sturat Sachs about toggling F3 except I have my scroll button configured to the F3 key.
I have “perpendicular” set on my OSMODE but do you have any idea why it would pick at the first point? This is really frustrating.

The content of the OSnap video has great tips. The picture quality is poor. Some of the lines in your demonstration don’t show up or are very faint. I viewed the video on a late model PC running Windows XP OS, using Firefox browser. I’ll check to see if I have updated to the latest flash version.
Also, is there a way to maximize the video to display at full screen? The image is very small on my screen (19″ LCD monitor) and the text and details on the video are tiny and not legible.

This video is in high definition, but you must play if full screen. To do so, press the icon that has four arrows pointing outward (just to the left of the volumn control) on the bottom of the video. That should solve your problem.

The video was great. Question, how about making the screen larger so one can view the entire screen? sound was great also.

it was great on my computer too!
Just a further note on the NONE option and using F3 to toggle, if you press F3 and HOLD it pressed it will act as a type of “none” for the duration you hold it, rather than actually toggling it off and then back on again.

Mike – love your tips. As someone who has taken classes and now used Autocad in one major school project (Interior Detailing), I’m still on a learning curve and find your tips so helpful and practical; they really fill in the gaps in my understanding and knowledge. The OSNAP tips are a perfect example. I wasn’t using a quarter of those commands and now I know what I’ve been missing. Thanks!
